April 2026 Poems

PROMPT: Marlanda Dekine says the following when asked about her poem, “Memory Poem” —“When it began to rain, I stepped onto the front porch and listened, remembering how often I did this as a child. I turned to automatic writing, letting the poem come without trying to control what emerged. In crafting it, I found myself returning to that early sense of attention and wonder. I hope this poem holds the memory in a way I can return to.”

Read “Memory Poem” by Marlanda Dekine and then write a poem where you try to step into your own early sense of attention and wonder. What does that look like on the page?
